Okay so it has been a long time since I have ventured into the car audio market and I am a bit rusty. I am going to buy a set-up for my car that includes one 12" sub. The sub I have picked out is the Alpine Type-R DVC model with the option of 2 or 4 ohms per coil with 250 RMS handling per coil. I want the lowest impedance the amp will see to be 2 ohms. Okay so now I need an amp that will push the full 250 watts to each coil of the sub. Is the below diagram the best way to accomplish this? Please keep in mind that the Type-R is the sub I am buying so please try to avoid recommendations for other models. Thanks.
Okay wait I see a flaw for the first diagram. If I run the figure in the second diagram the amp should see a 4 ohm load. The problem here is finding a reasonably priced amp that puts out 250 RMS on a 4 ohm load. Okay I am just confused now. How about this I need to find the easiest route to powering the DVC Type-R to its rated handling of 250 per coil.
The last one is the way to go. Make sure you get a good box and a good class D amp for the best sound. Oh, and don't forget to get decent power and ground wires.

VTEC It's like waiting for really bad sex.
Actually, the best sound comes from class A/B amps. However, class D is used more often for subs because they are more efficient so they can deliver more power with less demand from the electrical system.
I am going with the Audiobahn A8005DN to power the sub. Just ordered that and the Type-R from Ebay. The amp makes decent power for the listening levels I will be using. I already drew up plans for a 1cf sealed enclosure, called Home Depot and they cut the pieces in 3/4" MDF to my dimensions for free. Can't beat that. Less work for me. Using a sealed box because I am more concerned with accuracy and tight responsive bass than boom.

If you haven't already bought the amp, I strongly recommend you not buy Audiobahn unless you're after their bling factor.
Like I wrote in the post I already bought the sub and amp from Ebay. The Audiobahn will do just fine as a class D sub amp. My Audiocontrol EQL will be in as a pre-amp anyway. The unit prevents any clipping and ups the line voltage. All in all makes a huge differance in over-all performance of the system.
It's not a matter of class D or not. Audiobahn just isn't exactly known for making great audio equipment as their marketing dept would have you believe. If you look on any car audio forum, Audiobahn gets dismissed as retail junk.
I guess as long as you paid ebay prices, it's not too bad. The one I found was $80.
Why would you buy from ebay? Their are a ton of sites that sell good name brand equipment for like 50 percent off retail.
Also no offense but i think you wasted your money. One 250 watt subwoofer in your trunk is gonna be barely noticible.
LOL this cracks me up. I buy from Ebay because my fiancee is a power seller. I didn't buy anything used. Only new. And no offense taken but I wager that 1 Alpine 12" type-R against a lot of other systems with two 12's. And its 250 watts per coil on that DVC. Also as previously stated, I am 33 years old and do not listen to the garbage that most 16 year olds do. I am interested in tight accurate bass. Not boomy crap. Been there, done that when you were still peddling your trike down the sidewalk in your spiderman underoos. I want powerful kick drum, listening to music like, Tool, Deftones, early Metallica, Slayer, White Zombie, Alice in Chains etc.
Yeah man, I listen to mostly death metal in my car, boom is cool and all but i prefer tight responsive accurate bass. I can't really imagine listening to Krisiun or Suffocations kick drums on some giant 15"s in a bandpass.

if you have the power with the good electrial, a 15 can almost hit the tight notes as 10 inch sub.. its about the power, the box and install...
