Torque specs for 01 Camry 5S-FE

The manual says 59 ft lbs for the front strut tower nuts and 33 ft lbs for the valve cover nuts. But some people say 29 for the struts and 17 for the valve cover. What is the correct specs?

Buy a repair manual for your car at any auto parts store. It will give you the info you'll need to do most any repair. Anyway 33ft/lbs for the valve cover is too much. You'll end up crushing the gaskets. I'm not certain on the strut tower torque.

For the 3 nuts on top of the strut towers inside the engine bay, the torque spec should be 55 ft lb or thereabouts. I remember using an impact to take those 3 nuts off and then having to use a 1/2" torque wrench to put it back because I could only do about 40 ft lbs with the 3/8" one. I do not remember the exact number so I don't know if it's 55 or 59. I'm fairly certain it's in the 50s though.

As for the valve cover, I don't know.

oh jesus ... dont listen to anyones posts on the matter, just look it up in this manual:

www.**********s.com/camry/

which would tell you that the 3 strut tower nuts on each side should be torqued to 59 ft-lbs for the fronts (pg 52 of SA.pdf) and 29 ft-lbs for the rear (pg 82 of SA.pdf)

and the 4 nuts around the spark plug holes to secure the valve cover should be torqued to 17 ft-lbs (pg 15 of eg1.pdf) -- they are 30mm nuts, so i bought a 30mm socket (which is huge and sometimes hard to find) ... but 17 ft-lbs is within hand-tightening range so you can just use pliers or something if need be

yea, that info is for gen 3's but i dont think those aspects of the engine bay were changed for the gen 4s

I just got a Craftsman Beam torque wrench with 3/8" drive. It goes up to 75 ft lbs, so torquing the strut nuts to 59 is not a problem. And as for torquing the valve cover nuts to 33 ft lbs, I was refering to this manual that I downloaded..
