4th Generation Drained auto tranny

I drained the tranny while it was warm and let it drain overnight. About 2.9 quarts came out. I thought it'd be about 2.6 qts? Is this normal or was the tranny overfilled?

Overall capacity is about 11-12 quarts. Personally I would pull the pan and loosen the screen and get another 1-2 quarts out.

You cant get it all out at one time. You have to do several drain and fills to get it mostly changed.

I just did it today on my wife's I4 and it was about 2.6 qts.

the drain plug at auto tranny oil pan will get about 1/3 of atf out of your entire system, the rest are remain in the torque converter, and hoses.

drain and refill atf method will only dilute your old atf with fresh atf. repeat drain and refill 4 or 5 time will probably make dark atf turn pink or red again.
