3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hi, yesterday my 1997 Toyota Camry LE's battery died and I got it jump started. I drove it home and this morning the car did not start as the battery is dead once again. I've checked the acid level inside the battery and it seems to be fine. Is it time for a new battery?
Git the battery checked before replacing it. Were there any symptoms prior to the battery dying? Like the starter not turning over (bad starter contacts). Dim lights (bad alternator brushes).
I don't hear any clicks when turning over the car and there was no prior problems except one time I left the door open overnight and the battery got drained but I jump started it and it ran fine until yesterday. The battery is original which is 11 years old. I suspecting it's the battery. And if I open the door I can see the open door warning on the dash that is very dim and the power locks sound a lot weaker than normal.
Haha, yeah I was suspecting the battery was the problem also but I just wanted another opinion. If I were to purchase a new battery which brand should I go for and where can I buy it? I'm located in Toronto, Ontario.
Funny enough, MY battery is dead and I need a new one. I'm personally going with a Toyota one, BUT they are a lot cheaper here in the states. I'm not an expert on battery brands by any means.

5 Lug Corolla WHAT?
Wow, eleven years. I was shocked.
It must be the battery.
It's time for a new battery for me too, though it is hard to give up my current one, no problems what so ever, unlike the previous one, which would die all the time, and wouldnt turn over especially in the winter months. But, the current one is leaking white battery acid through the mounting bracket area, not even at the terminals. My current is a NASCAR selects battery, so that would mean its an interstate battery, right?

A simple test to determine if the battery is at fault is to try to jump start the car. Have you tried that? If it starts, the battery is weak/dead. Then you still have to determine if it's the battery itself or the charging system (alternator or loose alternator belt). If still no start when attemtping to jump start it, you then have to check all the connections at the battery and the starter. If those are good, then you may have a starter issue.
Just out of curiosity, what brand is your original OEM battery and was your car made in Japan?
My battery is dying. I need to change it. I have an Interstate battery on my car. Mine is Canadian make. Before I buy a new battery, just like to know what is the OEM battery?
