3rd Generation Huge Oil Consumption

Hi, mine's a 92 5sfe camry 102.000 miles and with a huge oil usage. Like a quarter every 200 miles. No big smoking or leaks. It smokes on cold mornings until it gets warm.
I released the hose from the throttle body and i can see smoke coming out of there on desceleration and maybe a little oil but not sure.
It consumes more when i drive hard. If i drive like a granny the oil stays longer.
What could this be?

Check, valve seals. And your PCV valve also.

But you may want to do a compression test and leak down test also, to see how you engine is doing. From your description, there may also be some blow-by. Probably won't know if the oil rings are stuck or not but nevertheless, more information on the health of your engine is always better than not enough.

102,000 miles is not that many for a 5SFE engine, if the oil changes have been done on a timely basis. If it is using oil my bet is valve seals rather, than piston rings. Before doing anything else, remove the PCV valve and see if the check ball inside of it is moving freely. Just shake it. Do you hear it moving around?. If not, try cleaning it with brake cleaner or just replace the valve with a new one. They are not that expensive. If the check ball is moving freely, then your problem is elsewhere.

3rd Generation

The pcv valve is new. compression is at 180 per cylinder. I use 20w50 oil. If it's blow by, how do i fix it? with the engine running if i remove the hose from the throttle body (the one that goes connected to the valvecover) i can see smoke and oil ocassionally.

Remove the valve cover to see how it is inside the engine, which would be indication of whether the rings are sticking or not. Too much blow by would usually require new rings and depending on the bores may be more. Do a leak down test too.

hahaha 20w50 hahaha
your engine is f-ed, and you know it, but if you're really interested in fixing it, lets talk then...

180 psi ... is that on a cold engine with 10w30 ? your oil is at least leaking from the valve stems in this case and causing your compression reading to go up. 180 psi is high
