European Union 1997 Camry CE bucks

Greetings:

While accelerating, my 97 Camry CE bucks, struggling to get speed, and eventually does. It may drive fine, but will resume those symptons upon random accelerations. Idle can be erratic.

An OBD revealed the following:

PO340 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction

P1135 A/F Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor1)

Any ideas?

Both of those items could affect you. Verify that the sensors are OK and, if they are then figure out why they are indicating a problem.

The camshaft position sensor is what the ECU uses to establish where the valves are to coordinate fuel and spark.

The air/fuel sensor heator heats up the O2 sensor (I think that's the same as the air/fuel sensor) when the car is cold and heating up. This would cause more problems during warm up. When the heater fails I'm pretty sure that you will have to replace the whole O2 sensor.

Kep is right on the Cam Position Sensor, it will cause some very interesting driving condition.

BTW, how many miles on the car? Any kind of repair done recently to the timing belt?

CE that is a four cylinder, right? Can't remember for sure.

The cam position sensor is right next to the cam gear on a four cylinder that is why I asked.

Check the cam sensor resistance to see if it is within spec, both hot and cold resistance.
