3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
You could use those adapter plates but they tend to cause rattling on lower notes, or at higher volumes. I personally used a punch and hammer to mark where the four mounting holes were on my speakers in the metal of the rear deck, then drilled them out from inside the truck with my cordless drill. I also applied a layer of dynamat around the edge of where the speakers would be sitting on the interior side to eliminate some of the rattling back decks tend to have.
Those adapters will work just fine. I used them in my 96. Just put a bead of silicone sealant between the adapters and the speakers. You'll need to trim the adapters a bit for them to clear a small ridge on the rear deck's surface. Then use thick foam tape(or a few layers of the thin stuff) between the adapter, and deck surface to seal to up. That will keep the adapters from rattling, and dynamat will keep the rear deck from rattling.
Another good thing about those adapters is that they raise the speakers a bit, so the larger magnets of after market speakers don't hang so low in the trunk.

Well, sorry they don't work for you. I've had mine in for 2 years, with no problems of any kind. They've held up perfectly even with 350watt 6x9's pounding away daily.

I've got Pioneer TS-D901P 350watt 6x9's. Perfect fit into the adapters. Before those I had a set of Blaupunkt 6x9's, again perfect fit into the adapters. I just had to trim a bit off the outer edge of the adapters for them to sit flat. That's all. It wasn't a big deal, and besides, if they're sealed properly, they will perform just as well as MDF adapters.

Since i am a newbie here, I found the bass improved a lot.
Also, i installed a sony x-plod one. It may touch the trunk spring, how can i know if it touch when i close the trunk, open the rear seat?
MDF = medium density fiber-board. It's the stuff speaker boxes are made of.
1) Like I've said, 2 years, and no problems. If that's not good, tell what is.
2) Any quality after market speakers will improve bass response.
3) My Pioneers have HUGE magnets, and they don't touch anything. Yeah, with the trunk closed, just crawl in after you fold the seats down, and look at the clearance. However, I'm sure they will not touch the springs.
