3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I got 1 gauge grounds to the negative battery terminal. So a BIG 2 upgrade.
A circuit breaker with 4 gauge wire runing back to the rear seats.
The headunit is an alpine cda-9884. Its very good but its only 2v preout.
The amps are a rockford fosgate punch 450.4 and a punch 360.2.
The 4 channel amp is powered by 4ga wiring and I am only runing front speakers.
The speakers are focal access 165 60w rms and the tweeters are aimed upward.
The cap is 1 fared and connected to the distribution block with a 4 ga wire.
The punch 360.2 is connected to the cap with a 8 gauge wire and is outputing 450w rms (not sure if thats max tho)
The 2 subwoofers are JL 12w1v2 in a ported box at about 35hz.
Now I wont lie I am not runing a lot of watts but the system hits very hard. One of my woofers will smoke all you sony xplod guys.
Did i mention I dont have rear speakers and its great. The port holes are right where the rear speakers would be. So instead of damaging the speakers, the air has a clean path to the cabin area.

With the same head unit and Ipod connector. I ran the connector into my glove box. With no ability to control the audio from the Ipod no need to leave it in view for thief's. Atleast my 2 cents.

It looks as though his is hidden in the dash tray under his HU with the flip down cover, Ipod, and connection wire pulled out a bit to show how its mounted.
On another note Albuynp Ryeno if you have your box proted vertically at similar spacing to your 6x9's it will kill them like you said you've been experiencing. But if you have it ported in another direction it doesn't affect the rear's as much, or at least thats what I've found.
Actually the reason I got my alpine besides the fact alpine rocks is because i was able to find an alpine ipod aux cable. So instead of using the stock ipod cable that connects into the ipod port. My cable connects to the aux port. This means i still get charging but instead of being forced to use the alpine to select the music, I can still use the ipods click wheel. I found every headunit besides a lcd touc screen headunit, is worse then the ipod to select music.
Also your prob right if the port wasnt up, then the rear MIGHT not get damaged. But venting it upward is the most logical thing. If i port it toward the trunk, then thats where the sound will go, AWAY from me. If I port it toward the seats, then the seats will absorb a lot of the sound. Porting it through the rear deck, allows the best flow to the cabin area.

You could always do what I did with my last system, I ported my box towards the passenger side rear seat and folded it down when I wanted to use my sub. I wasn't the most stealthy idea, with having to fold the seat every time I got in and out but it was effective non the less.
hey nice system! what did you use to attach your amp to your backseats? I tried a bunch of different screw and it always end up falling off, but I do make some tight corner turns.
Metal self tapping screws. The rear seats have a sheet of particle board and metal underneath that board. The cap was really light so it just got drilled into the particle board. But for both amps, i made sure the screws went through the metal. Also the metal underneath the sheets doesnt necessarily touch the particle board. You need screws that are long enough to reach the metal but also not soo long they come out of the other side.
Also a good side effect of having a ported box is that it doesnt slide during sharp turns since its soo big. My old sealed box kept moving around in the trunk which sucked because the cables got ripped out and they could have touched each other.

Nice system dude!!
Now what would be the difference having a sealed box w/ the subs pointed upward through the rear grills as opposed to having the box ported and the ports facing upward through the grills as you suggest??
is the port going facing towards where the by nine were?

Laterzzz Apbt
sealed box is better for rock and songs with the double bass.. ported is better suited for rap/hip hop and such.. port facing the grill or not, it would sound the same.. unless you acutally have hte port going through the grill and have the subs facing in the cab and have hte trunk sealed off. you can get cancellation.
