Can't get pass 4500 rpms

Hey guys, so I have a nice 1994 Camry XLE V6 in that pretty much has just sat in storage for the last year, ever since I got a newer Camry. So I take the the old Camry out every few months for a joy ride, but this last time when I got on it, it climbed up to 4500rpms just like it should but then it was like a rev limiter kicked in and wont let me go any higher in the rpms. It had less than a 1/4 tank of gas that I thought might have been old so I brought it a little over a half of tank with new gas thinking that it might have been just old fuel, made no difference. So I pulled the EFI fuse to see if I could get something to reset but nothing. There is no check engine light on either. What do you guy think it could be? Thanks for any ideas on where to go with it next.

Its hard to pin point.

But as uibalnme, you should definatly check your fuel & air filters first. I doubt that it would be an air filter, since your car was just sitting, but, your fuel filter is a good possibility. But, a clogged fuel filter is usually easy to distinguish, depending on what the feel is like at 4500 RPM. Or also as Camricer said, a dirty fuel injector. Those are the obvious things to pin point on.

But, I would check the fuel filter first.

Just my $0.02. :]

I found this on anouther thread and it seems like this guy is having almost the same problem, only my check engine light is not on like his. VIDEO http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=714m11&s=3 The trans feels perfect and I doubt it is a dirty filter, I think it is being limited by the computer for some reason.

Something might be up with your ECU. Try disconnecting the battery for a couple hours to reset it.

Maybe a stupid idea, the spark plug (wires) or knock sensor?
And is your "check engine light"not broken.....use a OBDII tool.

The CEL works because it comes on when the key is in the accessory position. I guess I will put it on a scanner. I just thought someone on here might be able to give me some sort of insight on the problem.

Sounds like the ECU is operating in safe mode, get it scanned.

Did you check the air filter like uibalnme suggested?... look for a mouse nest in the airbox under the filter?

Check the air filter. At one time our Camry sat for a while and a rodent of some sort, likely a chipmunk, had gotten up through the intake ducting and bulit a nest in the air filter housing.

Well I checked the air filter and its clean as can be, so its not that. What do you guys think of a clogged catalytic converter causing this?
