Hey guys, I'm new here (check my me/mines/mods post) and want to get some info on doing an engine swap. I have the 5sfe with auto transmission, I know not much in there performance department, but I gotta work with that. I want to know if I can swap out that for a 1MZ-FE. Anyone do this? Costs? Parts needed? Where to get motor and supplies?
I got the idea of doing this swap from the April 2003 issue of sport compact car when they did the same swap with a manual 91 Mr2. Any help much appreciated. Thanks.
yeah, thats what I figured I needed. Got an estimate on the cost?
Also just wondering, with the 1MZ-FE if you get the TRD supercharger is it really possible to get 350hp? They had different pully sizes and they ranged from a 4PSI to a 15PSI boost, but the base is the 4PSI boost. Is this due to the engine running unrelieably at more then the 4PSI boost. Thanks for the help.
hey, sounds like a fun project, but keep in mind that the TRD supercharger is supposed to be on the gen 4 camrys and will need a computer change or some other painful conversion for a gen 3 engine, it can be done, but i think it would prolly be easier to use a gen 4 1mzfe since ur swappin anyhow
the cost is incredibly high, thats why i decided not to go through with that, once i had the engine out of the donor car... also, it takes time and skills. just sell and buy a v6 camry! either that or turbo your 5sfe, its really easy, and there is a bunch of stuff ou can do, its getting more and more limitless as time goes on...
If you were swapping the 1MZ-FE into, say, an MR2 or an old-school Corolla, I'd say go for it. But in this case, you're better off just buying a V6 Camry (buy mine!) or turbocharging your 5SFE.
