Question 95 oil leak behind motor

i have a 98 trans am and recently because of gas prices i had to downgrade to a camry which was given to me by my dad.It has a 4 cyl motor and it seems to leak from behind to motor.I replaced to valve cover gasket hoping that would work but it seems to have gotten worse over the past few months, i currently have to add a quart about every week and half. What is back there that could possibly leak oil, im lost, plzz help

nothing wrong with having a camry as a daily driver! wahoo, another f-body owner in here.

anyway, on the back of the motor valve cover would have been my guess. the only other places i can think of without actually seeing where the leak is coming from is the distributor (but i dont think even if the gasket was missing would leak a quart a week) or the oil pan (but obviously the leak would be much lower on the backside). the common leak spots seem to mainly stem from the belts side of the motor.

How many mile on the car? Are you leaking that much oil or using that much? About how many miles each week do you drive for the engine to use a qt of oil? What area relative to the engine do you see oil leak, left side, right side, middle or just somewhere in the back?

Oil coming down the right side of the motor where the timing cover is?

Remove the tire and look around the lower timing cover and crankshaft pulley area.

Some smoke at start up may be worn valve stem seals and have nothing to do with the leak.

The possible sources of oil leak on the right side of the engine are plenty, from front cam seal, front crank seal, oil pump seal and O-ring seal, each of them can cause an oil leak. However, when there is an oil leak in that area of the engine, the usual practice would be to replace every item in that area regardless of which one is leaking because it is just too much work involve if you have to go back in to repair other leaks. There DIY threads, that you can check into for exactly that.

Depending on how long the smoke last during the morning start up, and how thick it is, it is possible you may have valve seal problem, which may have contribute to your oil consumption. For 140k, it is not unusual.

You have to determine which one is actually causing your oil consumption, like toyomoho said, take a closer look at the oil leak. If it is the main cause, it would be dripping wet around that area, otherwise, you may have an internal oil consumption problem. You can take some pictures of the area, so we can see how it looks, and give you some input.
