Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
hi every one i have a 1996 toyota camry le (5sfe) motor with 232k miles on it so yeah time to get a new car or make a project car ,i like my camry so no new car for me lol which motor should i get a 3sgte (st205) or a 1mzfe v6 or any others?
For $6k, I don't think your going to get 250-300whp unless you do the work yourself.
If you go with the 3SGTE, it will likely cost you $3k for labor ALONE to put it in. Possibly more. Then you need all the actual parts. Engine, Tranny, Axels, 1 custom mount, ECU wiring, clutch pedal, brake pedal, master cyl.
If you go the 1MZ route, you need to do a manual tranny for over 230whp. Lot easier to swap, less power. Ok, $2k labor for the swap. You need the engine, tranny, ECU, harness, axels, clutch pedal, brake pedal, etf. Then you have ~165whp. Then for the power, you have to Turbo or Supercharge. The SuperCharger at the LEAST us $2k. Then for the power you'll need to get 250whp, think about another $1k. Then you'll need the tuning done. If you go turbo, it will have to be 100% custom as nothing is made for the car.
Either way, your looking at over $6k if your actually going to be paying someone to do it.

5 Lug Corolla WHAT?
Just remember 1/3 the cost is paying someone to do the labor (And HOPING like all hell they don't F it up like happenes many many times). This would be the perfect oportunity to go take some mechanics classes, and learn how to do it. It will be worth it in the end. Trust me, it;s much more gratifying to do something like this yourself. Plus if anything goes wrong, you are much more liekly to be able to fix it. Hell, my friend paid arounf $2k to have a shop install his Supercharger, Headers, and a couple other things on his 1MZ Solara, and they STILL screwed up the install! Vacumme leaks from the SC and exhaust leaks from the headers. Do it yourself, or with a friend. You'll be happy.

Hell I just found a 1993 N/A Supra 6spd for 8K on craigslist. Just drop the other 2K on a turbo setup for it, and BAM!!! 400hp+ right there.
youd be smarter to buy a sc300 if you went that rout, you can get them for a fraction of the cost and its ecaxlty the same.
but yeah. 10 grand and id be lookin at a newer car. an early 00 maxima SE would be a great choice. insanely fast for what it is. i personally would be dissapointed if i spent anything more then 5 grand on any of my camrys unless i was going for crazy numbers. but if ya wanna do it to a camry then im partial to the 1mzfe with a 5 speed and SCed. easiest reliable power you can get.
You should get a RB26DETT and install that. You should be able to get that done for about 1500 + the cost of the engine. That motor comes stock with 330 crank hp, can be pushed over 700hp on the stock block. Bam!
I am not responsible if you believe what i just said.

Yeah, mechanically, but not when it comes to looks. The Lexus SC 300 is known everywhere else as the Toyota Soarer. However, the Supra is known everywhere as the Supra. I've never really been a big fan of the SC 300 design. It looks good, but to me it looks too much like a nissan silvia. Then, there's the relative exclusiveness of the Supra. I see a bunch of SC 300s, but rarely do I ever see an MKIV Supra.
MKIV Supra FTW!!!
