So im somewhat of a noob, I will admit.
but i do know some things..
camrys are something i def do not know alot about.
My car just dies on me.
american pos....cough
and i found a 92 v6 camry with 180k for $1300
Runs fine..a lil dirty and needs tires but all in all
a decent deal i think.
one thing that has scared me is that a mechanic friend
told me that alot of the v6 camrys blow hg's easily..Due
to the high compression..is this true or a tale?
[he's GM mech btw]

your "friend" is wrong, in that HG's tend not to blow easily in a 3vz-fe (the cam you have)'s engine. It tends to take a water pump failure to do it. Having said that, if the work was kept up on in the car (ie timing, water pump etc) then the car is a really good deal. That year engine will last a lifetime if kept up. Welcome to TN
Most of V6 guys here would deny that statement to their dead. I personally think that any type of engine can be blown of if taking enough abuses.
My friend drove a camry I4 and blew one cylinder out of 4, It kept on going though, before got totaled a few months later by a blonde.
Like someone said before, For a car at this high milage, you are not buying the brand name, instead u are more likely buying into the previous owner. Do you know a good history of the car ? That might help.
I got my 93 I4 for 1.5k at 192k miles in 07, If the car run fine and you dont seem to feel any problem, it's a deal right there.
camrys defiantly are not prone to hg failure. canrys have very very few engine or tranny problems. its mostly ps leaks from time to time, and vc gasket leaks, but never anything major. they will have hg failures eventually, but its because the hg is old and has alot of miles. i also dont see much in the way of a catostrphic failure, its a gradual usually so theres time to fix it.

has someone had a little bit too much to ??

All good to hear and yes it runs fine, seems very peppy for what it is
..and shifts great. =]
a lil curious..is there any aftermarket
for this motor? headers, intake, crank pulley ?
my bf said these things would increase the hp in the motor and
he'd install anything i bought for it and he's a
toyota guy [has 2 toyotas himself] so i feel pretty confident in his
advice and ability.
An combination of custom exaust system and aftermarket air intake can increase some what 10+ HP. Doesn't seem enough for any significant improve in performance unless u look into force induction.

not really, most stuff has to be custom. they had some parts for the later models like 94+ like intakes headers and such but even then nothing that will really increase power.
these are a few things that an old member did to his motor that will free up a few ponies and for near free.
