Rev surge w/ power steering

Hi, y'all.

My '93, SE V-6 engine revs when I turn the steering wheel; jumps about 750 RPM, and it happens wether I turn left or right. I have a 5-speed in this green beauty, but don't know if that's a factor. I notice the rev surge when I'm parking or sitting still and I turn the steering wheel.

Any suggestions?

it's the way that it's supposed to be

there is an idle-up solenoid for the power steering pump whenever your car is idling low and you turn the steering wheel

Honestly that's hilarious.

Your ECU must believe that the car is fighting a force and compensating it by upping the idle a bit. Have you tried checking the ECU, Diagnostics, Etc?

Thanks, Eye8. It sounds weird to have a rev jump like that, but since it's normal, who am I to argue with the Great Toy-o-Ta?

How do you check the ECU? And I guess I have to get it to AutoZone for a free diagnostic code read; right?
