4th Generation Water Pump issue(5sfe)

I changed my water pump about 30000 miles ago. When I changed water pump I also changed thermostat, gasket, cam seals, timingbelt crank shaft seals, and oil pump o ring. Yesterday I noticed a little red dot on the weep hole. I believe it starts leaking when the seal goes bad. The car is sitting for now I ordered a new water pump and all the other good stuff i changed before. Is it usual for a water pump to go so soon? What can cause the seal to go bad? If I run the car how long would it take the pump to completely go bad?

Unless there is a trail of coolant, you can probably just keep an eye on it. Officially, unless there is a trail of coolant or crust of dry coolant, Toyota doesn't consider a small speck of coolant a leak. And technically to some extend it is true, the weep hole is there to allow the minute amount of coolant that went pass the seal to drain out so it won't pack behind the seal and push the seal out, which would end up worst than a little drip.

I wiped of the little coolant that was there. I ran the car 3 miles I saw a little powder trail after. So it might be getting worse. I just did this a few mins ago

So you are actually seeing a trail and not just a little red dot. Was it a Toyota pump that you had replaced? Wash the area off with water, when it is in powder form, it means it has been leaking out a little at a time for a while.

Usually a Toyota water pump would have last longer than 30,000 miles, but like everything else sometimes there are exceptions. You did said 30k, what about the length of time since it was replaced?

You are very lucky that they gave you a water pump, because the warranty for parts are usually 12 months unlimited miles.

Well, good for you, keep us posted.
