Difference in JDM and NA auto tranny for 3VZ?

So we finally pulled the engine/trans and while I was looking over everything I noticed that the transmissions have different connectors and don't look exactly the same. I can't find much of a data plate or anything that would tell me what I'm really looking at.

Does anyone know if these are in fact superficual differences where the connectors can be swapped from one to the other, or in fact is the gearing/etc. different enough such that swapping the entire unit is ill-advised. I'll see if I can get some photos uploaded here today.

Thanks,

Bryan

do you have any pics on the differences? also, any way to get a wiring diagram for your new tranny? I would presume that the tranny should work, since the jdm 3vz works just fine swapped into an NA car- no ecu problems at all. Only difference being that there is no egr system.

Here is a photo of the JDM and NA transmissions. I really need to clean the case off before I take any more photos, but you can clearly see that the connector right of the shift linkage is different on the two transmissions. There are also some differences in the physical case of the unit, as there is a lifting eye on the JDM trans that my tie strap is hooked to.

hmmm....the plugs look different...but do they have the same number of pins? if they do, then you just may need to splice them

kind of like the the difference between the auto and 5-speed reverse sensor plugs on the trannys- same wiring. just the plugs are different

Well, the car is back on the road. We wound up never using the JDM tranny. One other little discovery was that the flexplate on the JDM and NA engine was not the same. the bolt holes for the torque converter are slightly wider on one engine than the other. We got the engine and trans bolted back together only to have to pull them apart again to swap the flexplates.

i never did find a wiring diagram for either transmission, and the company that sold us the engine/trans removed the VIN tags before shipping them...
