Tranny Swap??? 3rd gen

Hey guys, Ive been searching for the past hour or so and I just decided to ask directly.

Ive recently got a 92 camry 4 cylinder/automatic, that lost reverse. I am curious what trannys I could buy that would be compatable (year? engine?) . I was also looking for a FAQ/DIY on Tranny swaps but they were all for v6 (on the DIY).

Thanks.

well you have the stock auto or the stock manual(s54 i believe). id go with the manual if your willing to do the work to swap since ull be quite a bit faster without having to mod anything.

So Im guessing that any trans will bolt up from that era? (3rd gen?) automatic or manual? what about any wiring or speedo cable issues? Im just trying to put a workable trans in it for a daily driver work car. Looking for an inexpensive swap. thanks.

If you're not looking into any kind of modding I'd go for auto I guess.

Though still a manual gives you slightly better gas mileage, and better performance...

Whatever car is equipped with an S54 transmission is what you need. Old gen Celica's, Mr2's, and obviously camrys.
