4th Generation Removing the sluge

HEy guys, I recently thought about cleaning the engine, since my camry has over 100k and I don't think it has ever been done. I read many posts here about it and I found that going with auto-rx will be the best idea. I have couple of basic questions about changiing oiil in general though.

How do I know how much oil my engine takes?? It is 97 camry v6

When changing the oil filter I'm guessing oil tank is being opened and whole oil can spill through there? In case of changing only oil filter and not oil in whole ,how should I go about it??

Thanks a lot ,

Marcin.

If you havent already done so, there is an Auto Rx forum over at Bob Is the Oil Guy dot com. In addition, Auto Rx has its own forums as well.

I am currently in the rinse phase on an 08 Camry LE I4 and just started the clean phase yesterday on an 07 Sienna V6.

Generally, people drain the oil from the oil drain plug before removing the filter. If you want to do just a filter change, you would remove the filter, and then reinstall. Top off the fluid you drained, I think it would be around 1/2 quart.

As to the correct quarts needed, search as I'm sure that has already been posted here on TN.

One of the users had these steps done

# Installing a fresh filter and oil, and performing a 1500 mile cleaning cycle with one bottle of Auto-Rx. (done)
# Changing the oil and filter and performing a 2000 mile rinse cycle using oil only. (done)
# Changing the oil and filter and performing another 1500 mile cleaning cycle with one bottle of Auto-Rx.
(done)
# Changing the oil and filter and performing a 2000 - 3000 mile rinse cycle using oil only.

So Im guessing after 1500 he changed oil and filter.. and he used whole bottle of auto-rx on his nissan . When adding auto rx do I just add whole bottle after auto service changed my oil???

2 ounces AutoRX per litre of oil.

after the rinse phase (use conventional oil) is done, you can add a couple ounces as maintenance, but I don't do that

well...first take off your valve cover(s) to confirm if you have sludge or not...and then go from there...

I agree. Many times oil additives are not needed. I asked a question on a ES lexus and 90% of the members said I needed ARX. I pulled the valve cover and it was clean as can be. Most on BITOG are blinded by salesman (read between the lines).
