I think my thermostat is stuck on my 92 Camry 4cyl

Hey guys, my car takes a while to warm up and its not throwing good heat especially when moving. It warms up when the car is sitting but as soon as I move the temp gage goes down. I started to notice this once it got cold up here in NY.

Does it sound like its stuck open and if so who makes a good one and how tough of a job is it.

Thanks for any help!

Yes, from the description appears to be a stuck open T-stat.

Suggest going to the AutoZone website. The site has a self help repair section for this car complete with drawings that will cover this repair.

Stant makes quality products or get one from a Toyota dealer.

Drain the coolant out of the radiator into a container for reuse. The coolant is toxic to animals and human thus use suitable precautions.

For the few extra dollars I would stick with the Toyota OEM thermostat. They have an air bleed valve built in to them. When installing a Toyota OEM thermostat, that air hole should be around the 12:00 position. IMHO.
