Sanding down car to the primer

Hey guys, I just joined Toyotanation today and you guys got some great threads on this website!! Anyways, my cars paint job is oxidizing like crazy on the roof of my car. I was curious to know how I should go about sanding the car down for a new paint job. I want to do the prep work myself and then bring it to the professionals to paint it. The body of the car is in perfect condition (therefore, I dont think the prep work is going to be to crazy) its just the clear coat that is messing the look of the car up :lolz:. so sanding down to the primer.......how should I go about it????

Thanks guys

The current factory paint surface is actually a good primer coat itself already. So i think u only need to sand down the rusty part, dont get to the primer metal.

Just got finished repainting my camry. No need to sand your car down to primer if the color coat isnt peeling... If the body is in good shape, simply remove as much trim as possible (I removed everything down to steel shelland wet sand the body with 400 grit. Make sure any traces of peeling clear coat are completely sanded away. The end result after drying will be an even, dull color coat over the entire body, which is a great surface for repaint.
