2001 Camry Light Problem

Our 2001 Camry recently developed an unusual problem. When we turn on the headlights, they come on but none of the other outside lights do. The corner lights, tail lights and license plate lights are not working. The turn signals work when we use them and the brake lights work when we step on the pedal. The hazard flashers also work. I thought that it could be the headlight switch so I replaced it and still have the same problem. The car has a remote starter and I'm thinking that there is a possibility that it is causing the problem. Does anybody have any ideas?

Is the burned out tail light indicator on?

Brake light and turn signals/hazards do not git voltage from the light switch.

Could be burned out bulbs...or fuses. Did you check the fuses? Pull any bulbs?

Not sure if there are linkable fuses on the positive battery terminal like the older Toyotas have. Any corrosion on the terminals?

Are you gitting power to the light relay at all?

I am getting power. The headlights, high beams, turn signals and brake lights work. The corner lights and tail lights do not work.

Since you are gitting power at the light control relay (you checked it with a meter, right?) then it would have to be down stream from there...which would be the sockets and the bulbs. I'd still take a good look at the fuses to be on the safe/cheap side...

I have checked the fuses. They are fine. There is obviously no problem with the sockets since the bulbs light up when the turn signals are used and when we step on the brake.

When you checked the voltage on the relay outputs...what was the voltage you were reading?

My local dealer just had a similiar issue on one of the customs cars (1999 Camry). But the difference was, the fuse would blow every time the DRL's came on. It turned out to be the normal trunk wire harness issue where a wire around the trunk hinge will break, and short out. Are you SURE you checked all the fuses, and they are all 100% good?

I have checked all the fuses several times and they are fine. I also don't think my problem is the trunk wire harness since the front corner lights are not working either. When we turn on the headlights they come on but the front corner lights and tail lights do not. The turn signals and brake lights are working.

Already replaced the relay. That's not the problem either.

Okay...I just had to find out what the deal was.

Got the wife's 1997 Camry XLE, V6, automatic and tried to reproduce the same problem. Dash lights and headlights work. Brake lights and hazards work. Turn signals work. Dome light works. Corner and tail lights work.

Located the Tail fuse in the interior fuse box.

The one at the bottom of the middle row--red 10A fuse. I pulled the fuse. I checked the corner lights as well as the tail lights. Nothing. No lights at all. I could hear the relay (located somewhere behind? the center console) click when I turned the light switch on/off. I put the fuse back in and tried the switch again. It works!

If it's not the fuse...and not the sockets...and you replaced the switch and the relay...not much else left except to trace the wire and see where the break is.

I found the problem. The driver's side front corner light had a bad socket.
