3rd Generation No reverse lights when put into reverse 1993 Manual Camry

Hey guys, one thing wrong with my car that has been wrong since I got it is the that when I put the car in reverse my reverse lights don't come on. I've heard that a suspect could be the wiring harness is chafed where the trunk lid is where the wires go through but I've checked there and there are no chafed wires and is actually incredibly very intact. All other lights work, i.e. brake lights and blinker/caution lights but the reverse lights don't work. Any ideas?

Back up light switch. Find it, unplug it and if it has 2 wires, then short them. If it has 1 wire, ground it. See if the lights come on. The switch could be operated either by the shift linkage or a cam inside the transmission....Is it bolted to the transmission, or bolted into the transmission??????

Do the lights on your instrument gauge work (P R N D 2 L)? If not, it may be a faulty Neutral Safety Switch.

My car is actually a standard transmission so I don't have that on the dash but my dash lights work just fine. I don't know where I would go to find the reverse switch since it would be somewhere underneath the works of the car I'm not very good with cars but if you pointed me in the right direction with the help of my dad I can figure it out..

You need a manual for that car. A lot of us weren't good with cars at first. If that's FWD then everything will be under the hood. The switch will be near where the shift cable attaches to the tranny. It's really not that difficult. You can do it.

It looks to be on top of the transmission on the driver's side.
