Resonator Question

I have a DC Sports muffler with 2.5" piping that extends back to the resonator. I want to make my exhaust a little bit louder and increase hp so I'm thinking about removing the resonator and putting 2.5" piping all the way back to the cat. Then I replace the front flex pipe after the header and before the cat. with 2.5" piping. The only issue is that don't you have to remove a motor mount in order to remove that front flex pipe (pictured below)

Also I'm afraid if I remove my resonator then my camry will sound like a civic with a fart can muffler. Right now with my resonator on, my exhaust has a deep tone that is loud in the upper rpm ranges and it sounds amazing when I turn overdrive off. I just want it to be a little louder without sounding like a d series honda. To be honest I don't expect that much hp gains from upgrading to 2.5" piping but any hp gains at all would be good on a n/a 5sfe camry.

I dont want to hijack this thread but i have a similar conern that need answer:

What happen if i cut off the resonator and put on a magnaflow muffler in place, then run straight pipes down the range, no more muffler. Will i then hear the sound coming underneed my ass instead of from behind ?

im not familiar with dc sports, but id recommend a resonator. i don't know if this is a fair comparison or not but when i had my flowmaster installed on my 5sfe camry i had them cut off the resonator and do 2 and a quater inch piping. i thought it was a bit ricey at times so i had a resonator put back on. heres my clip for reference. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=DCxvJx...eature=related

hope this helps, good luck with whatever you decide to do! (and dont forget to post clips)

you wont gain any significant hp from removing your resonator

you will, however, make your exhaust sound raspy ... which is pretty ricetastic!

Venom_5 is correct in that removing the resonator will not net you much hp. i asked the muffler shop guy a similiar question about the resonator and backpressure, and he said resonators dont provide much backpressure (ie reduce hp) cause its a straight-through design meant to reduce sound. he showed me a resonator and all it is an layer piped to muffle sound that passes through.

if ya want to free up some power just replace the stock cat with a high flow one. the stock exhaust flows pretty well except for that one part. larger tubing on the cat back will make it louder though.

Yea thats what I was worried about. I probably won't do it, I'll just upgrade to a high flow cat. and use 2.5" piping.
