Is it legal to tint tail lights and headlights in CA?
Hi guys,.
So I just bought this smoked tail lights film for my gen 4 black camry. ( Im so excited, its going to look awesome.)
Is it legal to tint tail lights and head lights? Plus where can i get smoked tint headlight films for my model? My ebay seller didn't have it.
I know you can get a ticket here if you tint your front windows. (only if tint is more than 35%, but most get a ticket, its hard to win in court.)
Thx.

The tail lights must be visible for a given distance as well as the reflectors. They also need to be a certain color. Look up the vehicle code at dmv.ca.gov
Yeap! Tinting head lights and tail lights are illegal in CA. My friend had his Chevy Tahoe tail lights tinted and got pulled over a couple of weeks after that. He got a ticket. I really don't know why anybody should tint the tail lights or head lights. It seems to diminish the light output significantly and makes driving dangerous for you and other drivers on the road. I always get annoyed when I am behind a car that has tinted tail lights because I can barely even see the brake lights glow up when the guy is braking. To me he's asking to get rear ended, especially if it's in the fog or rain. I am guessing that you are probably going for the "black-on-black" look for your car but your safety is more important. Just my opinion.

Also, when you get pulled over and get a ticket, it would be under driving with No taillight/headlight even if it is visible and working. This is a huge fine and with huge fines comes a huge surcharge! (Retarded if you ask me) The Taillight must be RED and the headlight CANNOT have any clear plastic, glass, or film on top of it (this also include plates) They must have a red reflector for taillights and an orange for signals. Like those "rice" (Altezza?) looking taillights find on most typical Hondas are illegal and such as clear corners because it has a white reflector instead of orange.
Trust me a if an officer can not find anything wrong with your car, he/she will find something!
I should've ask'd you guys before I made the purchase. ( crap!). Thanks you guys, I'm not going to put 'em on. I'm not going to risk safety and a ticket for good looks.
oh. well, If anybody here wants those tint films (gen4) let me know.
Thanks all

In my city I didn't get pulled over for having blue corner lights (now they are amber), my loud-ass muffler, or tinted tail lights (back when I had them).
BUT I went about 15 mins down to a nicer, more rich area, and the first cop I saw pulled me to the side and gave me a warning about my exhaust setup and lights.
I would be careful about tinting though. If you do wanna keep them, get some LED bulbs or LED tail conversion so your brake lights are still nice and bright.
It's retarted to do...period. You risk the lives of others AND yourself. It should be illegal in ALL states and they should NOT even sell them in the U.S.

This is NOT true. There are PLENTY of cops that actually do their jobs and pull people over for BREAKING THE LAW, which tinting your tails and headlights, IS BREAKING THE LAW.
