3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
This might sound crazy to most of you, but I want to get some seats with more lateral support and to do this, I am planning to buy some 2002 +up Acura RSX seats or 2006 +up Mitsubishi seats. I know most of you will say why? This is because my original seats are a little too soft compared to my 2006 Accord and my Corbeau Forza, a very nice seat, is a pain to get in and out of, looks odd with only one in the car. If I do get another Corbeau Forza seat for the passenger, the passenger will be annoyed with getting in and out as this car like most is a daily driver. It will cost around $380, while I can get a pair of RSX seats for around $150-250 in Tan. Also, we all know that those "ebay" seats are horrible made and is a safety issue; I know that OEM seats have to pass tests such as when the seats are in an accident, it does not fall apart.
Most of you will say but how will you mount them into the Camry? Well searching on Honda forums, this is a popular swap for civics and eks. On one forum a person used heavy sheet metal and nuts with bolts. Well, I am planning to do the same method but going to weld most of the brackets to add strength.
Well I have to wait till Monday to call, if they ship and how much it would cost. When I do the seats, I will be writting a DIY if anyone else want some "Budget Seats".
I am writting to get some opinons, If they are better OEM seats and see if anyone would be interested.
Very interested bro. I been searching for awhile now and can't justify spending a couple of hundreds for just some seats. The seats in my camry LE SUCKS so I'll be anxiously waiting for your results.
you may also want to consider celica seats. eye8pussies has them and they are great. i think they mounted in pretty easy too. but youd have to pm him and ask about that to be sure.
i actually like the seats in my 94 LE. they are stiff but comfortable at the same time. and they arent event the power or heated seats. and if i remember correctly, eye8pussies was asked this before in another thread, and he said that custom brackets had to be made.
what you may like, if you can find tham, is gen3 SE seats. all the comfort of camry seats but the lateral bolsters are a little bigger and both lateral and side bolsters are stiffened. any gen3 SE will have them. they are not as good as somthink celica or RSX seats but that are a direct swap and still look OEM.
and yeah, celi seats are a favorite, and same with s2000 seats, but ppl just want a lot of money for them
also, any seat can be made to fit any car- you just have to use the rails that come with the seat and weld brackets onto them that fit the car.
And sorry, none of the stock brackets on the celi seats actually match up to the mounting points on the camry, every thing had to be welded
I found a set for $150 but I hope they can ship, to far to drive. And Yea that's where the drill, welder and some heavy steel comes in! Sucks that I don't have a welder but that should not be a problem.
But I was thinking Celica seats and also Subaru STi but they are more money. I think that the Impreza seat rails are bolt in, just have to switch the sides. I have to ask a buddy of mine.
I have a feeling the seat will be a little high for me, but I read that the bottom padding can be trimmed and pan hammered down for more clearence.
I love my torinos. I have a set of stock gen 3 seats if you want....and I am only about 2 and a half hours north of you too
Sparco makes nice ones, but I don't like the newer models with the adjustable height, looks weak and is only held by small bolts. I like the Corbeau rails because it strong and sits low, can be raise with spacers. I found a nice Sparco set for $55 each but I don't trust ebay nor the sellers.
I still have plenty of time to think it over, but I think the stock rails should be fine.

$55 for sparcos???? I smell scam
to tell you the truth, the torinos are actually quite sturdy and comfortable too, just the initial " you have to spend $600 or better on them" is a turn off and then top it off with the rail assembly
I fashioned 2 rail sets for some old ass apc seats once, I did my best with the welder, it was more work than it was worth

Yea, that I thought because my Corbeau rails were $99 each.
Well here is an UPDATE. I've found a nice seat of 2003 Toyota Celica Seats for only $75 each. (Cloth, Man, Drkgry-Black, Buc) The other junkyard only had black leather RSX seats, which are nice but they wanted $300 each compaired to $100-$150 each 100 miles away from me.
Is $150 for the pair of 2003 Celica seats a good deal? I might pick them up tommorow afternoon
