code p770 electronic shift solinoid

check engine light comes on after about 50 miles straight driving code read p770 shift sloinoid E,also found obD-IIport behind change tray on a 94 camry 1mz-fe thought OBD-II was in 96? any answers on this code for me.

The torque converter uses a electric solenoid to lock up. The code pertains to the torque converter not locking up when it should or slipping.

The typical problem is the solenoid is stuck, dirty valve body, lock up clutch.

The solenoid can be accessed by removing the trans oil pan.

For V6 Camry the ODBII change was supposed to start in 1995.
