3rd Generation Retrofit Variable Intermittent Wipers to 96 Camry?

I have a US 1996 Camry Sedan that I really like (better than a friends' 2001 Camry which doesn't feel as solid). But there is one thing I don't like: my Camry does not have the variable intermittent wiper option - just the single, fixed intermittent option that always seems to be the wrong speed. Could I achieve variable intermittent wipers by just having the variable control switch on the column changed? Or are their differences in the other components (relays, wiper motor, and the wiring harness itself) that would make this a task not worth the time and money?

TIA

I would believe that it should just be a relay and stalk change. The motors are the same. The variable intermittent wipers are just delayed...nothing special. Do you have the basic Camry?

It's an LE trim level with the four cylinder engine. Is the relay underhood or underdash?

The only difference should be the wiper stalk. That's how it was on the gen2.

Check your local import salvage yard and see if they have a Camry XLE from the same generation. Those came with variable intermittent wipers. Just swap out the stalk.

On the GEN4, Toyota made Variable Intermittent Wipers standard equipment on the LE models, that's good, but Toyota eliminated the MIST (single wipe) function on every GEN4 Camry (CE, LE, XLE). I really wish I had MIST.

Enough people must have complained. From GEN5, the MIST function came back.
