3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Probably internal transmission problem like a forward clutch pack not engaging! Will need to do some checking, start with checking the fluid level then the transmission pressure.

this sounds like my problem, which i was getting ready to post!
My car ('93 I4 auto) is normal in reverse, although it rattles a little more if stopped in R.
Put in drive it doesn't move. I rev to 2000 and it barely moves. Eventually it gets into gear, but still sluggish. I drove it on the expressway, and it was fine once it was in 3/4 gears.
I noticed that the "dog bone" engine mount was cracked... could this be the cause of my issue? I heard that perhaps this being broke did damage to the drivetrain? I only drove it twice since it was acting this way.

Engine mounts, not very likely, but not impossible if the excess movement had cause damage to the wiring harness.
It is possible that you have similar concern as the OP, but hard to say, since your car is still moving; might want to start with check the fluid level and maybe check the pressure. A bad torque converter will cause poor acceleration but works fine when just cruising at speed.
N.E.O.

I drained and filled the trans fluid last week (first time ever done). I haven't done the diff fluid yet. The fluid level should be fine. How do i check the pressure?? And does the torque converter repair require removing the transmission?
How was the fluid when you drain it out? What color was it? How many miles on the car now?
To check the pressure, you need to have an external trans fluid pressure gauge, needs to be able to handle up to at least 200 psi. Take a look at the FMS page 61: http://www.camrystuff.com/manuals/Gen3/ax1.pdf
If it is the torque converter, the transmission needs to be removed to replace it.
It was very dark, almost black. The car has 135000 miles, mostly highway though.
So far my action items:
1.Replace diff. fluid
2.Replace dog bone mount & check other mounts
That kind of fluid color is usually not very good. 135k is actually low mileage for a 93'.
I would suggest hold off on those items until you can determine what is going on with your transmission first; both of those items would be either directly or indirectly involved if you need any work done to the transmission.
My update:
I was running by autozone, so went ahead and bought the mount (~$30), replaced it, and saw no change while driving. It did eliminate the engine jumping around when I rev it while stopped, though.
It goes into reverse fine, but in drive (or L) I have to hold it at ~2000RPM before it goes. Before that, it barely moves. When it shifts other gears, it rumbles slightly, such as when you drive over a thin rumble strip.
