3rd Generation Steering wheel vibration when stopped

Last month I found this site and was grateful for first advice I found for my new (to me) 96 Camry concerning a vibrating steering wheel when stopped. I changed the 'dog bone' that was mentioned as causing the problem. The rubber on the old one was cracked and broken on one end - but now it still vibrates, though possibly not as much. Is there another problem or are Japanese cars just prone to be nervous? (This is my first Japanese car) Otherwise everything seems fine, other than a noise of someting running for a few seconds after the engine is switched off - which may be normal?

possibly a bad pump. gen3s have had small problems with the PS pump and rack. try this. pop open the hood, have either you or someone else put the car in gear (with the engine warm) and the other check to see of there is any vibration commin from the engine. i had that problem with my old gen3 and it ended up being a bad motor mount.

Yea no Jap cars are usually smooth as silk. Remember your 96 is 12 years old now and all your rubber is worn out. Its probably the engine mounts. You changed the Torque thing, but you still have major motor mounts at are rubber and all worn out. You feel it when stoped cause there is no road noise or vibraction to distract you. Its probably the mounts that went bad and from what ive herd there not that bad to change.

bigbird and nukem678 are absolutely right. Vibration that travels to your steering wheel when your car is stationary is due to worn motor/transmission mounts. I had that problem with my old 96 4banger. Usually I would put in neutral if I were at a red light or something. Keep in mind that the vibration is not a big deal, just worn rubber.

Just a note of thanks to Bigbird, Louie1086 and nukem678 for their suggestions to my problem of a vibrating steering wheel. I will follow their advice - I feel better now. And am encouraged at this site - the voice of experience is so helpful.
