4th Generation 200 Camry Ignition Cylinder

I meant 2000 Camry Ignition Cylinder sorry!

I need to replace my driver's side door lock cylinder and the ignition cylinder. I took the car to a lock smith who looked at it and is of the opinion that the pins are worn just like the key or bent. A new toyota key also did not help. The ignition sticks alot of the time and the driver door is hard to get the key to turn sometimes now. That being said has anyone had experience in replacing the ignition cylinder? The repair manual I have says to remove the steering wheel, but I'm not sure I understand why that needs to be done? The overall repair itself doesn't look complicated just trying to see if anyone else has done this before.

It may be as simple as it;s sticking. Go get a tube of dry graphite and put it int he cyl and then stick the key in and turn it a few times to get it all over.

I tried that. So did the locksmith. They believe the cylinder is damaged. It's been a nagging problem that I ignored and made worse by ignoring it basically.

Does the car have a key with a chip inside it. If so, you will also need to reprogram the new key.

The cylinder the key turns in come out by itself. Take off the upper and lower steering column covers. There should be hole in the area around the lock body. Turn the ign key to the ACC position, push down on the pin with probe and pull out the key with cylinder.

Insert the key in the new lock and turn to the ACC position. Insert both into the lock body.
