1998 Camry Front Speaker Problem

Looking for some help hooking up my front speakers in my 1998 camry XLE. I'm using the stock speaker wires through the harness to the deck. I then have it connected to a 4 channel amplifier. I can't get the front speakers to work after trying multiple things. The amp/deck/wires are all run perfectly. I understand that there is a stock amplifier on the XLE behind the glove box. I disconnected this and it still does not work. If anyone has any experience setting up the front speakers on an XLE using the stock wiring and then to a 4 channel amp, please post what you did to get this working. Thanks and Cheers.

Well...first:

Are you sure the stock speakers are still working? Have you tested them with either a multimeter or another amplified sound source?

Did the stock setup work before you setup the 4 channel amp? Are you sure you didn't blow up anything?

yeap.. everything still fully functional. Theres nothing to blow up, its a plug and play harness. Just not working with an aftermarket deck, and I believe its because of the power amp which i tested with it disconnected as well and it still didnt work, so now i want to splice into the actual wire going into the door.

This should go to the wiring schematics pdf file, pages 226, 227. Shows the plugs and wire colors for the door speakers, I think. Not sure of wiring colors across different years though.

Post up some piccies of the connectors that yer working with. There's a "splitter" that you need to pull the connectors from...it should be located on the right side of the radio opening. It's the standard Toyota connectors...one fer power and the other fer the speakers. The stock radio had a single connector that went to the amp and the amp went to that "splitter".

The Gen 3 XLE has the external amp as well. When you put in an aftermarket stereo there is a separate wiring harness tucked away in the dash behind the stock stereo that bypasses the factory external amp. I assume the gen 4 is the same. Did you use that "hidden" harness, or did you use the harness that was plugged into your factory head unit?

Edit:
Here's what I'm talking about on the Gen3. Scroll down to the part where it says "To Determine If Your Vehicle Has An External Toyota Amplifier Connected To The Toyota Radio."

http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs...PDF/869013.pdf

They don't show the same thing on their Gen4 guide, so maybe it's different.

I think I can help you. I was able to install my kenwood DNX 7120 in my 2000 Camry and I have a 4 channel and a 2 channel amplifier, and I didn't cut a single factory wire.

Using the wiring harness, hook your rear speakers to the front ones. For Example, connect the Front left positive to the rear left positive. Hook the output to the front speakers from your amp to the factory wires that run the rear speakers. The wiring that used to run your rear speaker off of the factory deck will now carry the current from your amp. Just hook the rear speakers up to the amp that you have back there.

If you think that taking out the factory amp is the issue why you might not be getting sound, then Crutchfield has the document for you.

You should be able to connect up the wires behind your glovebox.
