Electric Water Pump???

I noticed on Horsepower TV, they advertised an electric water pump that obviously frees some hp, and helps a little with gas mileage. Well I searched and found this universal water pump on ebay: here's the link : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-C...Q5fAccessories
So my question is, will this actually work on my 5sfe camry? I don't really know how it works, but I'm guessing it just attaches onto your existing water pump and spins it, because I can't see how they could be universal since every car's pump should be shaped differently. Of course I would need a smaller belt. Opinions?

i dont think it will work or benefit the 5sfe. you might get a 1% increase (if any) in hp from this. i believe the with these universal pumps you have to physically route the coolent lines to the electric pump. of course good luck fitting this in the general location of the 5sfe water pump. these are typically used for v8 motors putting out 400+ hp after everything else has been worked on (heads, cam, intake, headders...)

there are much better steps to increasing hp - this should be step 25.

The HP TV segment allows the user to take the water pump load off of the crank pulley (via V-belts) On our 5S engines, you will have to take the water pump impeller off to remove the load off the crank. I do not think that it is worth the effort.

Suggest a TN search as these pumps have been discussed before with many comments.

Issues include pumping capacity, transferring the power load to the cars electrical system (no free lunch) plus installing it. Suppose you could break off the impeller allowing the pump to turn without pumping.

also it isn't uncommon to run two smaller ones in series "just in case" one fails.
