3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My 1993 Camry LE V6 (151K) has been working fine. All of a sudden this morning when I started my car I started to feel Jerks/hiccups/knocking with the car. When I apply gas and drive the car then It is fine but when It is idle it jerks/hiccups. Not sure what is going on. Any help is appreciated. I had done the Spark Plugs change (Autolite platinum @ 104K miles). So it has been about 48K miles since the last spark plug change about 3 years ago. Most (85%) of driving is on Freeway. [and I am a decent driver. I don't rev the engine or drive above 70 mph]
I am not sure if spark plug/DistributorCap/Rotor is the problem. But I just throwing the info out there.
Please help.
It's tough to tell on the old 3vz v6s, especially since the car is so old. It's not that they have common problems, the parts on the car have been there for 15 years!
I would try replacing the cap and rotor, its an easy diy and will give you the chance to look for any cracked intake piping or other potential problems while you are in there.

Hi,
The Distributor Cap/Rotor/Spark Plugs/Spark plug Wires were all replaced at the same time @ 104K Miles. I have been told that spark plugs should go for about 60K and Currently I have around 151K Miles on Car.
I noticed some detais this morning.
If the car is Idle but in Drive I feel the vibrations/intermittent Hiccups
If the car is running between 1-55 MPH there is no vibration
If the car goes above 55MPH ( 65mph) I start to feel vibrations.
If I remove my foot off the Gas Pedal then vibrations go away but as soon as Put my foot back to maintain 65 MPH it comes back.
I have to tell you that I am not an expert on Cars. I can do basic things on my Camry like Changing Air Filter, Filling up Coolant and other fluids, etc...So Details or Links to other sites with Pics would be Ideal.
I really appreciate you guys spending time to help me out here.
Guys. The problem has been resolved. I called one of my mechanic friends and he took 15 minutes to find the problem.
He turned on the car and he could feel the engine vibration.
He then took out each spark plug wire out the distributor area ( I think) and made sure spark is there. He then removed each spark plug wire at a time and noticed misfire in one of the wires. He then temporarily covered the boot with electrical tape and reinserted the boot in cyclinder. No engine vibration afterwards. We drove on freeway also and it was fine. I'll drive the car for next few days and will update if any thing changes.
I'll plan to change the spark plug wires soon also as this is just a temporary solution.
Thank you all for your support. You guys are awesome!
Unplug the injector from the offending cylinder so it doesnt just dump fuel into a dead cylinder.
It is possible if it is one of the rear cylinders that the shop that did the plug/cap/rotor/wires didnt actually do the rear cylinders. It's not unheard of on the v6s.
