Anyone ever do an A/C delete? I know the belt is connected to both the A/C and the alternator, but on other cars I've worked on, just cutting the belt alone (Audi's have there own A/C belt) frees up like 10% more HP. I don't need my A/C, and was curious if anyone knows the deal with this?

You can always get a shorter belt to bypass it. Take a piece of string, run it along the pullys and then measure it to see what size belt you might need. If you doing that, then take the compressor off and you will save yourself like 15 to 20 lbs of weight.

thats what i was thinking about doing, you mean measure the entire length of the belt right? The only thing with that is that would it be in the grove or the crest that I would measure, or how do they measure belt lengths and widths and all that?

you could always cut the belt, then wrap it around, mark it, take it into the auto store and get the size below what you measured and one up (if there is a tensioner on it) then return the one you don't need
You may be able to purchase the belt from the dealership OR find out the length. You probably will not notice a difference and if you need a defogger it will not work near as well.

the AC i promise is not costing you anything close to 10% hp, the camry doesnt have its own AC belt, its more efficent that way and liek toyomoho said, when its not on its not causing any restriction. deleting it will do you no good, wont work as a defogger and make the car worthless to resell...should you decide to do so.
perfect! Because I had no idea it disengages. On some domestics also, you lose power from the A/C, even when it is off. So the A/C compressor has little to No resistance on the drive train then... perfect.

yup...what ppl ar saying...not on = no load....but you CAN save weight for sure though by removing all the a/c components....and if you're willing to do that, then it may be worth the effort
also, you can just go to the dealership and ask for a belt for a non-a/c camry

I replaced my serpentine this past summer, when I called autozone for the price/ part # they asked "with or without A/C?" so I guess they already have the belt measurements if you'd like to bypass the A/C. So that saves the having to measure part if you do decide to disconnect it's belt
