from clunking to squeaking in the back

Hey all,

94 Camry LE, there have been clunking sounds and things coming from the back of the car for awhile now, but it has never really bothered me because I usually have the music up pretty loud. However I was driving with no music today, and I noticed that the problem has gone from just clunking to a sort of...squeaking...creaking..."SOME LUBE WOULD BE AWESOME"...sound. This happens when I'm going over bumps, anything that causes the car to bounce even the slightest bit produces some sound from the back.

What should I be checking? I read that sway bar bushings could cause something to squeak or clunk but.........does the Camry come stock with a rear sway bar? I thought it did, but I only see two rods coming down and connecting to that area, no bar that goes across. So I'm a bit confused.

Also, the struts aren't exactly recent, but they aren't the originals either, and the car doesn't bounce excessively or anything so I don't think the struts themselves are the problems. Maybe the strut mounts? I hope not, those are a little bit...ridiculously expensive.

Thanks!

Rear mounts probably broken and sway bar bushings dryed and desintigrating.

Splendid. Can I visually confirm that without tearing the back apart?

my problem was the sway bar bushings (black rubber ) that caused the noise...replaced both bushings on rear then the problem (noise) went away...you can get the rubber black bushing from dealer... i got both bushing for 30 bucks..from dealer... my 96 camrry le 140k miles...

$30 bucks isn't bad...I'll have to look into that.
