3rd Generation chech engine light/car jerking

Whats up? new here with a question

I got a 93 camry and having some problems. when my check engine light goes off the car jerks a couple times then when it comes back on it doesn't jerk. About a week ago the light went off and car turned off and computer went up in smoke, put another one in and rode good without check engine light then BAM!!! it starts up again. If anybody had this happen or knows what it is can you tell me what cause is it?

Haven't really seen an EGR system kill an ECM. Having the current code would help to determine what your problem is.

This is something I'll leave to NEO to answer as he'll be better then me.

DTC 12 RPM Signal Circuit (No. 1)
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The distributor in the Engine Control System contains three pick–up coils (G1, G2 and NE).
The G1, G2 signals inform the ECM of the standard crankshaft angle.
The NE signals inform the ECM of the crankshaft angle and the engine speed.

ASG14 is right about the code 12, something to do with the signal from the distributor.

A couple questions though, do you have a I4 or V6? Is the engine still running? When did the light come on, while you were driving or when you first start the engine?

Check the resistance and connection for your distributor pickup coils in your distributor.

This thread maybe of some help: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/sh...09#post2605609.

Can you elaborate a little bit more about this distributor pop you are referring to? What do you mean by 'pop'?

How did you determine the distributor was bad? Which distributor setup do you have, separated ignition coil?

No Spark, Car wouldn't crank..when i put a new one on it car crank up again. but I don't know with setup i have or if its separated ignition coil, im going to have all that check out today. But the other day my dad unplug the knock sensor but i still get the jerking so I'm guessing it's the rpm signal
