3rd Generation HELP! My clutch gets stuck when pressed, 96 camry.

Hello,

1996 Camry, 2.2l, 4 cyl. Manual.

With the engine off:

Pedal goes in and returs, most times returns just half way. I put in all 5 gears including reverse and it seems to work fine, with just the problem of returning half way.

With the engine on:

Idling the engine and just pressing the pedal:it goes down and back but just half way ( so I think its the spring in the padal)

However, when I put it in gear and keep the clutch down for more than 3 seconds giving it some gas ( as if I was backing up of a busy mall parking lot space very slowly) the pedal stays down and the engine starts to rumble as if I was going really slow and on gear, since the clutch is already all the way down, all I can do is shut off the engine.

I have bleed the clutch line and replaces the slave(release) cylinder, and I still have this problemo.

Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone? How did they fix it?

Thanks!

Have you thought about rebuilding/replacing the clutch master cylinder?

The slave or master cylinder may be leaking. When the pedal is down fluid leaks from one side of a piston to the other the result is the clutch starts to release and engage the transmission.

sounds like the master cylinder then since you've replaced the slave.

replace that and you should be good. There are only so many components to the hydraulic system.

Usually on a clutch hydraulic system, when one part of it fails the other part may not be far behind, so replacing both is the way to go to save from the headache having to deal with it again.
