3rd Generation Power windows freezing...any fix?

Seems that the minute it goes below zero ...snow etc I can't get the windows to open...is this normal? Or is it because its a 93 the window doesn't have power enough to break away?

After driving for a bit it does open, I don't know if its because of hitting bumps or potholes loosens it or because of the car warming up.....

Can I spray something in the guides...? Any tricks?

thanks

If it's like mine, it's because your car is warmed up after a while and melts the ice/snow holding the window closed. [at least that's what mine does] Be careful though. There's a plastic wheel at the bottom of the window transmission and if you try to open it and the window won't move, it could break the plastic wheel off. Had to replace mine beginning of december as mine broke.

Good luck!

If it is any consolation, my 96 Camry power windows regularly freeze up too, until the car gets warm inside. I am not sure if there is any "fix" for this. In addition, the antenna doesn't go all the way down all winter.

Yeah, no real fix as the others said. You CAN however lightly knock with your fist around the perimeter of the window. Sometimes that will break it free.

Can't say it will 'cure' it but try a silicone spray on the seals. Jig-a-loo is one brand, think 3 n 1 and several other companies have it too. I just spray it on a cloth and wipe the rubber gaskets which contact the glass and also the door to help it from sticking. (See the posts of people replacing their outer door handles from yanking on a frozen door!)

Like Dave's suggested I would try spraying WD-40 on a rag and lubricating the rubber window seals with it. It might be worth a try.

Usually, this is also indicative of dirty window winding mechanisms and/or a window motor that is about to die. The window mechanisms, even though they are inside the doors, are still exposed to dirt and water. They tend to get clogged with dirt and begin binding (after many years)....and this often leads to the window motors burning out. If you have one or more windows (the driver's window usually goes first) that seem slower than normal....then it is likely getting ready to die.

There is no fix for this, IF the problem is, in fact, binding window mechanisms....short of disassembling the doors and cleaning/ lubing parts ....or replacing them.

Any excess force required from the motors (to raise or lower the windows), puts a great strain on the motors....and they will burn out, if this continues. It is not normal, just because of the temperature, (unless MANY degrees below zero), for the windows to not work as well as in warmer conditions. Of course, ice and/or snow, blocking the normal operation of the windows, is another matter - and one which can easily lead to burned out window motors, if you try to operate them while blocked.

I spray the outside window ledge with de-icer with teflon... then it works fine, the rubber rim of the glass was wiped with rubber protector (gummi pfledge) that I had from BMW.
