Canada E-Brake Cable '99 CE

I did some searching and couldn't find an answer in a previously discussed topic about the problem I am facing.

I am currently needing to replace the drivers side e-brake cable, and shoes on both sides for my Camry. It is the V6 CE model with disc brakes- Japanese built. I have the rotors off and the center console taken out so that I have access to both ends of the cable.

It looks as though the rear cable (the one I am replacing) joins with the front cable on the other side of a steel barrier. Is there anyway to remove this barrier? I couldn't seem to find a way to remove it so that I could take out the old cable and install the new one.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Take a look at the photo of a replacement cable, this may help you figure out how it comes off.

I already have the new cable bought and the old one half off. I just can't find out how to get the barrier off which blocks the connection of the two cables. Thanks for the help though.

Greg - If you don't mind me asking, what problem are you fixing by replacing the parking brake cable and how much did the replacement cable cost? Were you able to get an aftermarket cable?

The drivers side rear wheel had locked up while the car was in my driveway (sitting for a week without moving). The cable had seized so I decided I would replace it along with all the parking brake shoes on both sides. I got the cable for $45 at a local shop and the shoes for $13.99 each at the same place.

Edit-
The parking brake was engaged for the whole week while the car was sitting.

I bought them at a place called Ferguson's. I will check the aftermarket brand name when I get home.

The shoes were made by Brake 1 and the cable was made by Absco.
