4th Generation Engine & Suspension Questions

I'm planning to do some more mods before the autocross season starts back up again. One of the mods I want to do is wrapping the headers in heat wrap. I only have one question about that; the heat wrap will block some of heat from getting out into the engine bay but what keeps the blocked heat from going back into the exhaust ports and excessively heating up the engine itself?

According to this guy heat wrap should not be used at all because it causes the headers to destroy themselves quickly, http://www.centuryperformance.com/ex...e-spg-138.html. I heard ceramic manifolds crack with heat wrap but my header is cast iron so I don't think that apply's to me.

The second issue is with suspension components. Does anyone know of any company that makes aftermarket tie rods, rear strut bars, chassis braces or control arms for a gen 4 camry?

keeping the heat in the exhaust actually makes the exhaust more efficient, rather than having losses through the piping the exhaust piping does its job .... good wrap will retain up to 70% more energy

you dont need aftermarket tie rods, control arms or a rear strut tower brace - look at the company that is doing the chassis bracing for the Gen 5 & 6 in their section, cant remember the name, but they make one for the Gen 4

your best bet is a TRD Rear Sway Bar on Track Setting and a good set of coilovers with some time to test & tune

I already have an addco rear sway bar but I don't want to get coilovers because I live in a mountainous area which is bad for lowered cars.

What about the rumor that heat wrap causes the headers to crack?

you dont have to lower your car just because you get coilovers ... most coilovers will allow you to even raise your car above stock height if you wanted to do that for some crazy reason

however, it only takes about 30 mins to lower your car a few inches ... so you could always lower it on a track day and then raise it right back up

I suggest you read up more on heat wrap. See link below:

http://www.centuryperformance.com/ex...e-spg-138.html

Heat wrap is often done when a turbo is used.
