quick valve cover gasket questions

Hi, its been a while, just wanted to ask, is it ok to just change just one of the valve cover gaskets. Or would replacing only one possible cause the other to go bad? Also i have been looking at part store sites, and wanted to know is the front valve cover gasket ( one closest to front of car) considered the left or the right gasket?

PS was gonna have a friend do this to my v6 95 camry , (with my assistance at getting beer)

thanks in advance

Yes, you can replace one without having to replace the other. Chances are though, that you will develop a leak in both of them after time. 1MZs (your motor) are notorious for valve cover leaks. So the answer is yes, you can do one without the other.

I don't remember off the top of my head if the left is front or rear and right is front or rear, but someone on here will find this and answer that.

As far as I know, they are usually refer to as front bank or rear bank, but if you insist, the front one is left and the rear one is right. However, bank 1 is the rear one, and bank 2 is the front one.

I Just did mine on my 1MZ with 150k. I went with Felpro gaskets, seems like a good brand, never had any problems with them, me and my friends have been using them for a while. Anything from them or from Mr. Gasket is good.

Why not stick with Toyota gaskets, it has lasted you that long? Don't forget the semi-circular cam plugs on the head, should reseal those too when the valve cover is off.
