4th Generation Egr Valve problems

okay so i have a 98 camry 4 cyl 2.2l with 170000mi. and since july ive had a check engine light on and finally got around to finding the problem. i went to a local shop (one of my freinds from high school is a mechanic there) and got the thing scaned. it turns out that i have the dreaded P0401 code. my freind told me i needed the egr valve replaced but costing at about $175, (i also took out the egr valve and cleaned it with sea foam) i did some research. i found that most of the time it is the EGR MODULATOR and/or the EGR VSV. now i was able to find the egr modulator for only 60 bucks. but i can't find the egr vsv ANYWHERE. is it only a part i can buy from the dealer? or am i just crazy.

also i need my coolent temp sensors replaced. i bought one for the fan, and i need one for the computer. does it really matter what sensor i buy? are they all the same? ive found some online but none of them say if it's for the computer or the fan.

all help in this matter would be greatly appreciated!!!

i also found the following forum...somewhat useful but seeing as tho i can't find the vsv anywhere it doesn't really help.

You have listed a few different parts that needs to be replaced, but are you sure you need all of them replaced?

Do a search of the site, there had been some posting about EGR VSV not long ago, maybe they will give you some idea where to get the part.

The VSV is easiest to source reliably from dealer, followed by Ebay then try Craigslist and Kijiji. I found one for a friend's car on craigs list by accident when searching and my browser self entered VSV for me.
