Headlight Cleaner

Not sure if Pittman's headlight cleaner is the best stuff, but thinking about giving it a shot. Anyone know where to buy it that is not $40? Found a site that sells it wholesale for $20 a pop.

Go pick up a bottle of Meguires Plast-X and see if that works. Depending on how bad the headlight it, it may work perfect.

body polish works well on plastic surface, and it's only cost ~$10 for a "scatch fix" kit.

Headlight cleaner

I wet sand plastic headlight lenses with 2000 grit and soapy water to break the oxide then polish with a cheap buffing compound and finishing glaze. This will keep them clear for a couple of years. You can do it with out removing the lamps just take time to tape over the painted areas so your buffer doesn't bite around the headlight, it should take less than an hour to do both. Total cost under $20 if you have the buffer

Believe it or not I used toothpaste on my headlights. It helped to remove the surface discolouration and cleaned them up nicely. The polishes would probably do more, but the toothpaste was fine for a small surface clean.

I heard that sandpaper really scratches the hell out of the headlights, and that toothpaste should only be used on glass. And I guess I'll give Meguiars a shot after watching this

I have some Meguiars swirl and scratch mark remover stuff. Will that work the same, or should I go buy the PlastX?
EDIT: I just tried the scratch stuff, which is actually Nu Shine or something like that. I used a sponge as the applicator. The headlighs look fantastic. They are very clear, but still yellow. But look better.

Sandpaper will only get the some of the discoloration off. You have to buy something to get rid of the oxidation, which from the video Meguiars stuff might work.

Yes the sand paper alone will leave the head light lens foggy but thats what it takes to cut the oxidation from the lens, the buffing compound and finish glaze will polish out the scratches and leave the lens new looking. I've done this on several sets of headlights and they all have turned out looking good.

Good luck

3rd Generation Crappy headlights?....Do what I did.

My Headlights on my '93 camry were very worn and dull. I tried a little to polish them, but I really didn't like the Dated looking prism projection lenses. So I went on good ol' ebay and found a nice pair of DEPO headlights. They have clear lenses and multi angle reflectors. a nice updated look. I paid just over $200.00 for the pair-delivered. The light beam is better than the original toyota lights and it makes the car look much better. I also matched up a pair of clear corner bumper signal/marker lights, and all combined on a #040 white Camry- looks real sharp. The bumper lights were only $40.00 delivered, and the DEPO lights and bumper lights are decent quality. If you get new lights or re-polish your old ones, keep them looking good by NEVER dry wiping them clean. NEVER use a gas station squeegy to clean them. Always rinse them with water first, then gently wash with mild detergent, and lastly polish them with PlastX or similar. are we CLEAR?
