3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Ive had them installed on my car almost 3 years ago, and i just recently found out that my rear driver side strut went bad, my wheel actually bounces around on the road and makes me very scared to drive my car. And it sucks because ive lost all information on when i bought it, i actually bought it off ebay, i could probably find that information but i dont think i have a reciept for it anywhere.
And i dunno if Tokico would actually opt to replace it. Any ideas? what should i do?
its also odd for 1 corner to go out ... they usually go out in pairs, because once one side blows it puts stress on the other side - and since they have the same mileage they blow
but like everyone else said, replace all of them or at least replace that rear pair

i have blown tokicos on my 98... i can tell you they DO have lifetime wty, but they DONT give you anything except a hard time if you don't have the receipts. I"m about to have to just buy another set myself. They're about $300 on ebay for gen4. My problem is, I want to make sure i don't lose the paperwork this time so i can warranty it next time.

The lifetime Warranty is for manufacturing faults only...
not for regular wearing out, as shock absorbers do...
Is the reason they give you a 'hard time' maybe because you seem so 'unreasonable'...
Shock absorbers wear out, they are a replacement item like brake pads...
I would be so embarrased to show level of nievity to front up with 3 year old reciet for shocks...
Can imagine what they will be laughing about over lunch break...
Tyres allso have Warranty as does most everything,
commonsence is there for a reason...
It most common for one shokie to go, they are seperate after all, and not associated with each other.
As rightly mentioned, one gone loads up the others, and yeah...
I dought the question was genuine,
sounded kind of quere, and for sure strange way of thinking...
Hi Gibbo,
hey stupid and quere are two different things, with two different meanings... hence spelt differently
Stupid was your word.
The wording in the Warranty is correct,
it is your interpretation that is at fault.
NORMAL: means just that.
WEAR: means just that.
NORMAL means just what it implies, if after 3 years a shock gives out, then that is considered normal,
if you don't believe me, ask the manufacturer, they will tell you the same thing.
WEAR means just what it implies, ie: not remaining new, showing signs of use.
If the shock had been kept under the bed for 3 years and then found to fail, it would not have 'normal wear' and would be replaced happily...
A little reality goes a long way, life is not that hard to figure out... things do wear out.
it's not a contest between who is right, that would be quere...
since I know I am...
3. TOKICO Warranty Obligation. TOKICO's obligation under this warranty is limited to
the replacement of the defective or worn-out products covered by this warranty.
what's so hard to understand there? it actually says "worn-out".
I have done warranty exchange on 4-yr old struts before and had absolutely no trouble doing so because i still had the receipt for them. The only issue in this thread is that the OP lost his receipt (just like i did with my current set) and so we won't be able to exchange our worn-out struts.
btw - how do you pronounce "quere"? does it sound like "cure"? Maybe you meant to type "queer" based on how you used it in your first post on this thread.
