4th Generation about suspension

I have a quick question? I need some new shocks for my 1999 toyota camry 4 cyclinder?

1. Anyone know where I can get some good ones for cheap price?

2. Do I need to buy new springs to go with these, or can I just use the factory?

3. How much does it typically cost for installation? How long does it take?

Thanks

Shockwarehouse.com has em' at good prices. So long as your springs aren't deteriorated or broken you can reuse them. If your mechanically inclined, buy yourself a set of spring compressors. DIY=saving$$$. Should only take a couple of hours tops.

Is there a DIY guide somewhere? Basically a step by step guide?

Someone had a guide, but advice on spring compression: Don't. What to do is head on over to your friendly local garage with the strut assembly (with spring) that you've removed from your car. Go when they're not busy - for me that was on a Saturday afternoon about 4 when the local sports team was playing. Cost me $20 and a six-pack to get both front springs changed out. They do spring compression all the time and can do it quickly and safely. I, on the other hand, came *this* close to shooting my Honda Odyssey's front spring to the moon when a cheap Chinese-made spring compressor let loose.

How much miles?

If your changing struts too, might as well change springs at the same time, saves labor later.

You have plenty of routes on what kinda of suspension you want:

OEM: Toyota OEM parts of course
Cheap: Monroe Quick Struts
Comfort: KYB struts with springs of choice.
Sport: Tokico struts with springs of choice.

It's fairly easy to install, probably around 30-45 minutes per side, faster with two people.

Check sway bar end links at the same time, might need replacing of course.

Front strut mounts may need replacing, if you have the typical Gen4 front end clunking.
