3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
i was driveing up a steep hill from park and guned it ther was smoke from the tires and i went to back up and it seamed to go but was stuck and i put it in park then it shook a lot and wen i put it in nutral it was in drive wtf dose any one know any thing a bout this
Smoke from tyres meant learner driver had used more accelerator than was needed.
traction was lost and the box was overspun probably blowing the diff and for sure burning the plates possibly the modulator as well, from what I can make out from rough description...
Expensive lesson on car and driver control / gearbox behaviour / traction.
you blew it. lesson learned? oh yea, you should probably remove your "catch me if you can" and change "the honda killa" to "the toyota killa"..... -for obvious reasons.

no drive is good i can get up and go but i talked to my uncle and he said the valve is stuck on wen i turn off the car nutruel is nutruel not in gear not the toyota killa
don't you think that was a little harsh? Not to mention, but the diff is probably stronger than the tranny itself, so it would PROBABLY (not for sure) be the tranny before it would be the diff. I run my car hard as hell on the stock diff with a little more power than stock, and the diff is fine. I track it, burn out, mountain runs, etc, and never had one problem. A/T too.
I would like assume that for some reason, something got stuck in an open or closed position. Any CELs? (Check Engine Lights)
How many miles on the car?
If you can drive the car, the trans is probably (not for sure) OK. I would like to say that something just got out of whack.

Yeah it was a bit tough I guess,
but loosing traction with foot to the floor (gunning) will wreck a diff...
But yeah chances are that is not the case...
My remark was motivated more out of respect for machinery than concern for OP, I guess...
Ok I'm guilty...
Except that the 'problem' he has, whatever it turns out to be...
was driver inflicted.
How bad is it to hold the brake and gas at the same time for a very short period of time?
Just enough to get the rpm to 2k or so, I figured it would be better than doing neutral drops
You will get a much better effect by not being so afraid of it..
The red line is even for mums & dads and is perfectly safe
nothing will happen to you.
Whatever you can think off is probably safe to double
by sounds of your inexperience.
Don't worry so much about every little thing
it's only nuts and bolts, any idiot can do as u say...
ok i hope ur all kidding
if it was the dif he wouldnt be able to put it in drive and acutally drive while the tranny box is in nuetral
also the little letters that tell all of u what "gear" ur in thats just for refrence. trust me i havent been able to keep a auto for more than a month with any car.. that being said i never dropped it either.. no problems with any manual. ur module for switching through the dif gears is f'ed up OR u might have bent the bar from the inside of thte car to the tranny that swtiches the gears.. a rebuild is probally gonna cost more than a new tranny.. if it is f'ed beyond fixing manual swap that bitch (its cheaper)and ull have alot more fun with those uphill drives
edit: read the last posts
U dropped it from 6k!!!! lol
but seriosuly if u dropped it from 2k even u can grind out all ur gears cuz the PCM thinks its going faster and faster and it keeps switching gears there fore grind most if nott all gears..

Don't be so soft, the car can not fly thru the sky because it was not designed too, but what u want to do is within the design boundaries, the only bit they got no control over is your brain functioning and how it interacts with the throttle linkages and the environment, P platers are known killers...
Ask your parents how the car should be treated if you so unsure, do you have a license.
