Cylinder Misfire Engine Code

How common is a bad coil as the cause for a #1 cylinder misfire trouble code on a 2000 Camry 2.2L 5SFE? The #1 plug is black while the other 3 are gray so I'm guessing either coil or plug wire. The #1 and #4 cylinders share a coil. Can one half go bad without effecting the other? Is there a resistance test I can run to determine if it is a bad coil?

I changed the plugs but that didn't fix it. I'm thinking can't be many more things other than wire, coil, or engine control module..........

4th Generation

When my car had a misfire code, one of my fuel injectors was not operating.
Is there more than one code?

Yes, this can happen. Before assuming its the coil or plug wire, you should check the fuel injector. Take an ohm meter and measure the resistance of the injector on cyl. #1, then measure one of the other cylinders and compare the reading. If the injector reads the same or close to the other, your coil is bad. If you read on open(no resistance) or short(0 ohms), your injector is bad. You can read the resistance of the primary and secondary of the coil, but its not the best testing method.
