Could be a number of things, including bad spark plugs or something else ingnition related, but i doubt it's the timing belt. If i t was broken, the engine wouldn't run at all and if it had slipped, the engine would run very poor, if at all.

Your car sitting for 8 months could have something to do with it...

Sitting for 8 months could ofcourse cause trouble. How is the idle? How is it running when cold?

dude...here in canada, were have record cold.

But in summer the weather is almost tropical!!!

Anyways, at -30, the "extern cooler" would be true only during warm-up. After that things get pretty hot.

A bad map could cause that, but i would expect it to infect the idle as well.

Am i right to assume that the problem is lack of low end torque, but not high rpm horsepower?

Did this problem occure before changing the timing belt?

You said you did the timing belt, are you absolutely sure you have it correctly timed?

I;ve seen quite a number of threads similar to this and they were off by one tooth.

We allways assume, that the timing belt being off would make the engine run like shit, but VVT works by adjusting the timing, so in principle it would just change the torque characteristics, for better or for worse.

Is it a slave cam or both driven by the timing belt?
