96 speakers stop working

hello everybody, very new here with a small problem, hope this is the right place to post this.

well i recently bought a 96 Le to replace my previous 92 theres been a few small problems with the car which i knew buying the car but the price was just right, the problem i am having now is the speakers have stopped working. when i bought the car the back speakers already did not work and not to long after about 2 weeks or so the front went out [at the same time]. they are they factory speakers and with the factory head unit.

i switched out the head unit that still seemed to work fine with my sony unit from my 92 that i knew worked. the factory unit worked in the 92 but the sony when put in the 96 had the same problem with an intresting surprise. the sony has a selection beep such as choosing a station or song on a cd and it runs through the speakers, this sound can be heard through the speakers in the 96 when activated but as far as music there is nothing. there seems to be no problem at the head unit plugs. i have been troubleshooting the wire and fuses but i am just sure what excatly could be wrong.

thanks for any help in advance,
Dan

p.s. and yes the volume is turned up

Do you know if your car has a factory amp? You can also use a 9 volt battery to touch the two wires on the speakers to see if it moves and listen to the noise it makes.

Are you sure that the beep comes out of your speakers, and not from an internal speaker on the head unit?

i don't believe it had the factory amp because it has no tweeters in the door panels

will the nine volt test let me know if the speakers are blown? [i found out today that with the radio in and the car on there is a very very faint buzz in the front two speakers but only the front two if that helps.

as for the beep i am pretty positive the the beep comes from the speakers, it also does it when the car is tunred off for security, although i could be wrong if so its a very loud and wide reaching internal speaker.

My 2000 Camry has tweeters in the sail panel and there is no factory amplifier to be found anywhere I could tell. If yours uses the typical toyota hook ups then it probably has no factory amp.

You should a pop noise by hooking them up, or nothing at all.

As I write this, I thought of another possibility. One of your speakers could have a direct short or the wire is touching the frame the radio could be turning off the speaker output to prevent damage. Are you able to keep your radio out and hook up the speakers one by one to your wiring harness to see if this is the case?

You could also hook up a radio to a 12 volt DC adapter as long as you had some other speakers you could test. Just hook up the red and yellow wires (aftermarket colors) to the positive and the black to the negative.

I know that there are other speakers in the car that make noises for the alarm and such.
