3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
A Must:
-Coolant Flush (depending how bad the coolant looks, and use OEM Toyota Coolant)
-Tranny Flush (If it is brown or black. It should be Red when new)
-Timing Belt/Water Pump/Seals (Check the belt and see if it looks old. If not, you should be fine with it)
Check, and replace IF needed:
-Air Filter
-Struts (If you replace them, replace thestrut mounts too)
-Spark Plugs/Cap/Rotor/Wires (If they are OEM Toyota wires, the date is ON them. If they say 1995, I'd suggest replacing all listed)
I's also run seafoam through the brake booster AND gas tank.
If kept up pretty well, you'll be fine till past 200k miles

Use a modified turkey baster to remove the PS fluid from the reservoir and refill with fresh. Do this 3-4 times over a short period of driving and the fluid should be clean again.

Bleed the brake system with fresh fluid.
No need to buy a turkey baster, you can use any old bottle with a pump. Like an old moisturiser dispenser, hand wash dispenser e.t.c...
Change the trans fluid every 30-50k miles. Get your differential fluid replaced. This can be easily overlooked since the transaxle and differential are seperate units. Keep up with your oil changes. 3,000 miles for regular oil and 5,000 miles if you use synthetic. Replace your coolant every 30k and use the Toyota red coolant. If your water pump and timing belt are original, get them replaced. If you have rear drum brakes, get them checked and adjusted. The wheel cylinders can leak under the dust boots. Get your dogbone mount checked and/or replaced if you have alot of vibration in the steering wheel at idle. Get the valve clearance checked every 60k and adjusted if necessary.
I have a 93 camry that has 235k and it runs great still. Im the original owner and have done my own work on it. Change the oil every year or so. keep the air filter clean, check it every 4-6 months. spark plugs, brake fluid and pads, just keep everything in good clean condition, it will last you long. As long as you dont go crazy and go racing or off roading.
